In
1977, Latinas and Latinos on Southwest Side of Chicago began organizing
to create a means of upward movement. In particular, these individuals
understood that the link to better paying jobs was education – reading
and writing in Spanish and English, having a high school diploma or
equivalent, and becoming a U.S. citizen. Since its inception, Instituto
has been a story of hope, perseverance, and community triumph. Instituto Del Progreso Latino: 30 Years of Progress In1977, our community set out to create a space where Latino/a immigrants and their children could find social and educational support. 30 years later, Instituto is a leading city and state organization providing a wealth of services to meet both community and industry demands. Instituto has and will continue to grow to thrive in an era of growth and progress. Our adult students continue to move forward with innovative career training and educational services, while our youth are youth are encouraged to pursue their dreams through the principles of social justice. Our mission is supported by an impressive board, a dedicated staff and a community that understands the value of hard work. Education is power, and Instituto continues to fueling that power. |
